Antheraea polyphemusPolyphemus moths are common residents of the woodlands of southern Canada south into Mexico. When its wings are closed it is well camoflaged as a dead leaf. It can open its wings to surprise a predator by resembling an owl with its large eyespots. These animal "paintings" were created with a computer. The original photograph was taken by Carol.
